Establishing that syllables have at least one vowel letter (and what the vowel letters are) will help. The single-sided file VOWEL LETTERS INC. It attempts to show the approximate developmental sequence of the baby’s first year and can be related to photos the children bring in for the topic. This is to force the slick reader to study the words carefully before choosing. There are ‘distracter’ words and pictures. Introduces new vocabulary and requires listening for meaning as well.
